Categories

The Award has two main categories – “Organisations” category and “Industry Practitioners” categories to assess the performance and efforts made in promoting sustainable construction.

Organisations Category


There are Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Award in each sub-category under organisations category, a total of 16 awards or a combination as deemed appropriate by the judging panel of the Award

Project Owner (Public Sector)

Land and property developers associated with the HKSAR Government departments, public utilities and their subsidised organisations.

Developer (Private Sector)

Land and property developers associated with private enterprises and other entities which are not classified as project owners of public sector.

Contractor in all tiers

i) New Works

Construction works performed by main contractors and contractors in all tiers, but not limited to foundation, building or civil projects.

ii) Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition (RMAA) Works

Repair, maintenance, alternation and addition works at designated locations other than construction sites, including general trades and special trades.

Industry Practitioners Category


There is one Excellent Award and five Outstanding Awards in each sub-category under “Industry Practitioners” Category, giving a total of 18 awards or a combination as deemed appropriate by the judging panel. Awardees can obtain monetary incentives of HK$20,000 for the Excellent Award or HK$10,000 for the Outstanding Award.

Construction Manager

On-site management staff, e.g. project manager, site agent or any managerial staff who is authorised to allocate site resources for sustainability.

General Practitioner

A registered construction worker under the CWRO and/or frontline staff who is supervising, arranging and coordinating the construction works, e.g. construction supervisor.

Young Practitioner

  • Aged 18-27
  • A registered construction worker under the CWRO and/or frontline staff who is supervising, arranging and coordinating the construction works, e.g. construction supervisor.

Eligibility

General Conditions


  • Each project can be operated in Hong Kong or other cities in Greater Bay Area and is a project with construction activities in the period between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2023 to be eligible for application.
  • Applicant(s) should provide further supporting documents upon the request made by the Judging Panel for assessment purposes.
  • The shortlisted applicants will receive further notice for final assessment by the Judging Panel.
  • The CIC and/or the Judging Panel reserve the right in their sole and absolute discretion to determine the eligibility of any applicants and the decision is final.
  • Applicants are bound by the rules and conditions of the CIC Sustainable Construction Award set out in the “Rules and Conditions” section of the Application Form.
  • All the information provided by applicants, including any personal data as defined in the Personal Data Privacy Ordinance (Cap. 486), will be used solely for purposes relating to the activities of the CIC, particularly assessment and publicity purposes relating to the Award. Please refer to the “Personal Information Collection Statement” and “Rules and Conditions” section of the Application Form for further details.

Organisations Category


  • Each organisation can submit one project per application and can submit more than one application.
  • Each project can be applied in one sub-category only.
  • Applicant(s) should nominate their practitioners to participate in all sub-categories of “Industry Practitioners”.
  • Nominated organisations should hold a valid Hong Kong Business Registration Certificate or is a limited liability company.

Industry Practitioners Category


  • Applicant(s) should be nominated by his/her organisations.
  • Applicants should select “Option 1” or “Option 2” to complete the application. Please refer to the “Application Form” for relevant requirement.
  • In the sub-category of “Construction Manager” under the “Industry Practitioners” category: The applicant should be appointed as an onsite managerial staff who is authorised to allocate site resources for sustainability. A copy of appointment letter should be attached in the application.
  • In the sub-category of “General Practitioner” under the “Industry Practitioners” category: The applicant should be a registered construction worker under the Construction Workers Registration Ordinance (Cap. 583) (CWRO) and/or a frontline staff who is supervising, arranging or coordinating the construction works, such as construction supervisor or equivalent. A copy of appointment letter should be attached in the application.
  • In the sub-category of “Young Practitioner” under the “Industry Practitioners” category: The applicant should be a registered construction worker under the CWRO and/or a frontline staff who is supervising, arranging or coordinating the construction works, such as construction supervisor or equivalent. The applicant must be aged 18-27. A copy of appointment letter should be attached in the application.

Judging Criteria for Industry Practitioners Category


With a view that site management team and workers may play different roles on construction, specific criteria (listed below) are developed for managerial staff and general practitioners to highlight their effort in sustainable construction. Award Category


The Award comprises of two categories – “Organisations” and “Industry Practitioners”. For “Organisations” category, there are total 16 awards. (There are a Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Award in each sub-category, or a combination as deemed appropriate) For “Industry Practitioners” category, there are total 18 awards (1 Excellent Award and 5 Outstanding Awards in each sub-category of practitioners.)
Yes. A “Smart Sustainability Award” is added under “Organisations” category to recognise winners with outstanding performance in application of digitalisation to contribute to sustainable construction.
Yes. To encourage sustainable construction through application of digitalisation, relevant judging criteria are added in both categories. In “Organisations” category – criteria relating to Digitalisation Technology are added to encourage applicants to highlight their use of digitalisation technologies & solutions to mitigate environmental impacts on diverse aspects, e.g. use of materials, waste generation, carbon footprint, energy efficiency, water efficiency and etc., as well as to illustrate sustainable construction on other ESG areas including social and governance aspects. In “Industry Practitioner” category – criteria relating to Digital Competence are added to evaluate advanced technology and/or digital skills that the applicant has employed or demonstrated to promote sustainable construction.
In “Organisations” category – Innovations and Bonus, a maximum of 5 bonus credits will be given to projects that has fulfilled all of the following requirements with supporting:

  • Use of materials with CIC Green Product Certification, http://cicgpc.hkgbc.org.hk
  • Adoption of sustainable materials (Please nominate the supplier’s name and contact details. Shortlisted supplier will receive a plaque)
  • Obtain a certificate of the CIC Sustainable Finance Certification Scheme, https://sfcs.cic.hk
The Award welcomes applications from different types of projects, such as foundation, building, civil, and RMAA projects.
Yes, applicants of the “Industry Practitioner” Category should be nominated by their organisations. Organisations are encouraged to nominate their colleagues in all the three sub-categories under “Industry Practitioners”. Please be reminded that each practitioner can only participate in one sub-category.
No. According to the eligibility requirements, each project can apply in one sub-category only. Please indicate in the application form the sub-category you intend to enrol in, i.e. either Project Owner (Public Sector), Developer (Private Sector), or Contractor (New Works), or Contractor (Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition (RMAA)Works) Each organisation can submit more than one application (one project for each application).

The application can be submitted in either English or Chinese.

The application starts from 13 January 2023 to 30 June 2023, 5 p.m.
Some examples of Project Owner (public sector) include: Architectural Services Department, Civil Engineering and Development Department, Drainage Services Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Highways Department, Water Supplies Department, Airport Authority Hong Kong, CLP Holdings Limited, Hospital Authority, Hong Kong Electric Investments Limited, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Housing Society, Urban Renewal Authority, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, MTR Corporation Limited or related entities.
CIC only accepts one application from multi-construction sites under the same contract.
Applicants are suggested to submit supplementary information such as figures, illustration, charts, photos or multimedia contents to demonstrate their achievement and efforts.
No. For “Industry Practitioners” category, applicants can choose to submit the application form OR a 2-minute video to demonstrate their achievement. Applicants only need to choose one of the two submission formats.
It helps organisations and practitioners to identify gaps and opportunities in their sustainability journey. It also provides a benchmark and recognition against peers in the industry. The Award winners gain chances to promote their corporate image. Monetary incentives will also be given to the awardees in the “Industry Practitioners” category. (HK$20,000 for Excellent Award and HK$10,000 for Outstanding Award)
Application form and nomination kit can be downloaded from the CIC Sustainable Construction Award website www.scaward.cic.hk. Besides, CIC will organise award briefing sessions in the first quarter of 2023. Details will be announced on www.scaward.cic.hk.
A project with construction activities within the period between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2023 are eligible for application. Projects who are shortlisted for site interview in Q3 2023 shall arrange site visit for assessors. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
The award winners will be informed by email and invited to participate in the Award Presentation Ceremony in November 2023.
The Award accepts application from project operates in Hong Kong and other cities in Grater Bay Area.
